Glimpses of Everyday Life
Photographs by Jennie L. Green

May 21 – October 8, 2011

In celebration of our Year of the Photograph, the Ella Sharp Museum of Art and History is proud to exhibit one of our favorite collections. Donated to the Museum in 1984 by an heir, Ben Green, these photographs taken by Jackson resident Jennie Lovan Green capture a glimpse of her everyday life.

A Jackson elementary school teacher, Jennie enjoyed photography along with gardening as creative outlets. Her love of children, fondness for animals and her passion for gardening are evident in many of her photographs.

Born in 1860, Jennie first picked up a camera in the 1880s and continued to practice the art of photography until her death in 1947. She was an avid member of the Jackson Camera Club, rarely missing a meeting and through the years she was honored by her peers with the presentation of many awards.

This exhibition of just of few of the more than 300 photographs in the Jennie Green collection will be on exhibit in the Pyron Gallery from May 21 – October 8, 2011.
