For Leland Beaman, formerly of Jackson, Michigan the only thing that came easily was visual expression. Every other form of expression had felt un-natural and clumsy. He is well known for his oil paintings, sculptures, drawings and watercolors within the Jackson community as well as his current home in Arizona.

in the Jackson area. In 1987, Beaman completed this watercolor for the Andrews. With its elegant profile and striking coloration, the American Avocet is unique among North American birds. In summer, it can be found in temporary and unpredictable wetlands across western North America. Beaman has successfully captured the stunning coloration and grace of this bird within his depiction.
