Determined

Bronzewood Meld

    J. Christopher White studied Wildlife Biology at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, TX and then spent five years studying human anatomy at the National Institute of Fine Arts in Mexico before he became a full-time artist.

White’s art is all about movement. Traditionally wood sculpture is often static and stiff, but Determined is full of s-curves, fluid lines and negative spaces.

The golden colored wood he uses is West Texas Juniper and the only place in the world it grows is along a stretch of cliffs in the Texas panhandle.  On his wood searching expeditions, White and his friends must carry the timber up the canyon with some pieces weighing as much as 150 pounds.  Occasionally to lighten the load, he will begin to carve the wood where he finds it on the ground.
